Castle Lite Unlocks 2018 Lagos
K.O.D J. Cole’s latest album was first performed by him in Lagos and it was everything you could have hoped for.
You could find the hashtag Castle Lite Unlocks everywhere and on the 27th of April, the much anticipated event finally happened. It took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites and was packed as it attracted a large number of Nigerians who came to watch one of the best rappers alive perform.
J Cole had recently dropped his album K.O.D and coming to Nigeria for the first time could not have happened at a better time. J Cole actually realized on this day the high level of fan base he had in Nigeria.
The show was hosted by Nigeria’s D.O.T.U.N and the sensational South Africa’s Pearl Thusi. Opening performances was themed ‘versus’ mode to last for 10 minutes between artists M.I and YCEE, FALZ AND TIWA SAVAGE. Amongst all the artists listed above, M.I was the only one who did Nigeria proud as the rest were quite uncoordinated; mostly high off drugs.
As For Wizkid, he was as usual a bundle of disappointment, with Nigerians not forgiving him yet for missing his 2 appearances at coachella. His performance was horrible due to technical issues as well as his low energy and nonchalant behavior. This lack of togetherness made his entire set look disjointed and unplanned. His band was whack; I mean is this the same band he planned on taking to Coachella?
Davido actually did something better, even though as usual he brought his entire ‘DMW’ family on stage. His selection of songs was amazing but his grand entrance is something that would not fade away from the heart of those who were present.
Finally, at 2:05am, J. COLE , the man of the hour showed up. He came wearing a Nigerian Jersey repping. He performed a wide range of songs from his début album Cole world, 4youreyezonly and even music off K.O.D like motiv8 and Photograph; his energy was live. He also brought on stage dreamville affiliate BAS.
You could see the happiness and surprise on his face when the crowd rapped along with him to songs on K.O.D after actually saying it was okay if they did not know the lyrics as it was new music. J Cole actually shed some tears, so did a couple of his fans that they showed on the screen, it was a magical moment. He rounded up his almost one hour performance with ‘No Role Model’ and left a sense of fulfillment in our hearts.
