Top 5 Music Videos For April
Just incase you have not had the time to watch music videos this month, I have and I would like to share with you, my top 5 music videos for April (totally subject to debate)!!. From my least, to the best, look through.
5. SZA FT ENDRICK LAMAR – DOVES IN THE WIND
Ninja themed video. Well it does not have anything to do with the lyrics but yeah it had to be ninja styled. We are graced by the presence of Kung fu Kenny as well as little miss SZA who is seen travelling on a horse back while she sings. Well her travelling is to go meet her master to train but she must fight ninjas, avoid sand traps and dodge darts shot from a bamboo reed, all of which might as well be a metaphor for being a woman on a hip hop label, i’m saying maybe here! Clearly possessed with inner strength she ascends above her masters ability at the end.
4. JANELLE MONAE – PYNK
PYNK is not subtle. No! No!!. This song calls out for women power. Oh wait, pussy power as the underwear show “I grab back”, and every rock formation you see is awashed in rosy hues. Even the parts where Monae and her dancers wear labias asking to be explored by Tessa Thompson. Monae clearly acknowledges that womanhood is not defined by the vagina. The “PYNK” video talks about liberation and sexual fluidity; i mean Janelle recently identified as pan sexual.
If you are not ready for content that you do not want to see, then this video is not for you.
3. J COLE – KEVIN’S HEART
Kevin Hart cheated on his pregnant wife and had the nerve to apologize for that on instagram. Well t came out as cute and right for a man to open up and it maybe inspired J.Cole to make a song about his own un-virtous activities, and guess what? Kevin Hart is the star in the video ‘Kevin’s Heart’. Haha!!
The video shows the comedian going on about his normal life; meetings, groceries, stroller shopping. All the while being surrounded by judgmental eyes who look at him with disgust and hide behind rueful laughs to-wards him.
There’s an element of woe-is-me-ism which makes the video feel like a womanizers fantasy. Despite all this there’s a glimpse of honesty towards the end when Hart is seen staring blankly in his car, lost in thought.
2. J COLE – ATM
New off the K.O.D but it has everyone buzzing. A song about money and vanity, the video does actually do justice to the lyrics. J.Cole gives credit to Busta Rhymes for the inspiration behind this music video. He is seen in a room full of money the himself being tied together like he is in a mental intuition.
The video depicts some kind of slavery to money and vanity and all the expensive things in life. I actually love how J.Cole speaks on a topic that is widely rampant in the society.
1. DRAKE – NICE FOR WHAT
We have seen all the various sides of drake and we love it. Every new music of his has a new emotion from him. If you are into drake and you have watched a handful of his videos you would have definitely seen the sad drake, meme drake, drunk drake, needy drake and even our favorite, dancing drake! He is here now with this new drake. Following the release of God’s plan video, Nice For What has the internet buzzing. He puts in our favorite famous women who are looking nice as hell. The video tells a story which is linked to the songs lyrics.
This video actually had me in tears because of . This is what you get when you let a woman direct your video. Always on repeat.
Videos like Miguels and J.Cole ‘come through and chill’ as well as ‘Alone’ by Halsey and Big sean were also released, they do not cut if for me as I just feel they are basic. These are my thoughts, what are yours?
